Process for Canada Student Visa

Step 1: Offer letter from University or Institute

The first stage of student visa application is to receive the offer letter. Student normally gets an offer letter in 1 to 4 weeks depending on the institute after formally submitting an application and submitting all the necessary documents.

Step 2: Pay Tuition Fee

Next stage is to formally accept the offer and make the required fees payment using the payment methods prescribed by the Institution. Once the institution have received and processed your tuition fee payment, they will issue you a fees receipt. This receipt is required to lodge your student visa application.

Step 3: Purchase of GIC

Applicant students should be financially able to support his/her education. So for most institutions it is compulsory for the students to buy a special guaranteed investment certificate (GIC) from any of the participating bank for the amount of $ 10,200 CAD or higher as mentioned in offer letter for the adjustment of the living expenses of the first year. The student will be able to utilise this amount for their living expenses in Canada.

Step 4: Medical Examination

Next step is to undergo a medical examination at one of the panel doctors approved by the Canadian government.

Step 5: VisaApplication

Next step is to lodge or submit the visa application. Student are required to arrange with the required documents as per the checklist. Student visa applications can be lodged online or via paper manually.
For online application the first step is to create an account. You will be provided with a login and password after initial assessment. Uploading documents and paying visa application fees happens online.
For manual or paper application you can submit the application at a visa nearest application center. Applicant should ensure that the application is complete else it will not be processed and will be returned to you.
In most of the cases you now need to give your biometrics. The time taken to process each visa application can vary depending on a range of factors.

Student Direct Stream or SDS is a streamlined application process for the study permit, which guarantees faster processing times. SDS is aimed at students with strong English or French language skills, who wish to study a program at a Designated Learning Institution. Sometimes student may be asked to go for an interview with officials in your country.

Step 6 – Outcome & Immigration

If your application is approved a letter of introduction will be send to student which is required to be produce before Border services officer (Immigration) when you arrive in Canada. The student will receive an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) or a visitor visa (temporary resident visa) to enter Canada. The officer will stamp on your passport the length of your stay which is in line with your study permit.
