Process for New Zealand Student Visa

Step 1: Offer letter from University or Institute

First step is to secure an offer from the Institution of applicant’s choice by applying with documents not limited to academic documents and evidence of English proficiency. Offer letters normally get issued in 2 to 4 weeks.

Step 2: Arranging Funds

For visa application, it is necessary to prove financial stability. Hence applicant student has to produce evidences in the form of financial documents which shows that the applicant sufficient finances to cover the tuition fees and cost of living. Six (6) months old savings bank account statement or fixed deposit slip or Bank loan sanction letter are some of the documents considered.

Step 3: Undertake Medical Check-ups And PCC

Once applicant receive the offer letter, he/she will need to undertake a medical examination at clinics approved by the New Zealand Government. Also, applicant is required to secure a police clearance certificate by applying to relevant agency.

Step Four 4: Visa Lodgment

To lodge visa application for New Zealand student visa, applicants are required to present the documents outlined in the checklist provided by the New Zealand Immigration.
In relation to the financial stability, it is strongly advised to take advantage of the FTS (Funds Transfer Scheme). It provides a guarantee that the applicant student will have access to sufficient capital to meet the cost of living in New Zealand.   • Applicant passport must be valid for at least three months beyond his/her period of stay in New Zealand.

The average time taken by the New Zealand High Commission for the visa procedure is anywhere between 8 to 12 weeks. So, the applicants need to lodge their visa applications at least three months prior to their course commencement.

Step Five 5: In-principal Approval & Payment of Tuition Fees

Once applicant is notified about “Approval in Principal” by the New Zealand Government, they will be required to pay theirr first year’s tuition fees as mentioned in the offer letter. Fees can be paid through Telegraphic Transfer (TT) at this stage; those students using the FTS will also need to transfer their living expenses. You then pay the fees directly to the Institution, get a receipt for INZ, and collect the Student Visa. Student may proceed to book flight and report to the Institute.
